Welcome to Bit By Byte Farm!
A private 7 stall barn set on 12 acres in Chesterfield, New Jersey, Bit By Byte Farm is a boarding and training facility specializing in starting young horses in Dressage and Jumping.
Nancy Warmkessel, owner of Bit By Byte Farm is originally from Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania and has been riding since she was three years old. Her first ride was with her father on his Tennessee Walking Horse, Smokey. Obsessed with horses since a young age, she would always request her parents to stop the car to see the Standardbred foals at nearby Almahurst Farms. After beginning riding lessons at Hidden Hollow Farm with Paula Hoskins, Nancy got her first pony, Dutch, at age 8 and joined her local Mainville 4-H Horse and Pony Club. Eventually Nancy moved to a larger pony, Lady, and began riding hunt seat with Deb Smith of Crystal Creek Acres in Bloomsburg.
As a teenager, through a mutual friend, Nancy's family acquired Valkrie, a Selle Francais mare who had been trained in three day eventing by Bruce Davidson. Beginning to ride Gavotte (as Valkrie was called) opened a new experience for Nancy and she moved from local shows to national jumper shows with a new trainer Lon C. Pyers of Lewisburg, Pennsylvania. Lon also taught that success in the show ring required good groundwork with a strong foundation in Dressage.
At home, Nancy's mother had begun breeding Valkrie and Triple B Farm of Bloomsburg Pennsylvania began to produce home bred French Warmbloods. Nancy worked with Lon and eventually by herself to start and train the foals. Their first foal, In Love II (or Baby) is still with Nancy now at Bit By Byte Farm and is producing a new generation of Welsh-Warmbloods crosses.
In between many years of riding and competing, Nancy also met her husband Jeffrey Warmkessel of Wyomissing, Pennsylvania. Before meeting Nancy, Jeff's experience with horses was limited to webmaster for the Palomino Horse Association. Ironic since Nancy's first pony was a palomino. Now, Jeff and Nancy are creating a new equine future together building Bit By Byte Farm.
